Palestinian Foreign Minister: Abu Mazen will not attend the UN General Assembly meetings

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki said today, Tuesday, that President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen will not attend the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this month, and will send his recorded speech due to the “Corona” pandemic.

Al-Maliki added, in statements to the official radio (Voice of Palestine): “President Abbas decided not to travel to New York this year and only record his speech via video, so that it will be transmitted and broadcast on the twenty-fourth of this month.” And he continued, saying: “As you know the conditions of the Corona pandemic in the nations.” The United States is not easy and the situation in New York City in particular is difficult."

He went on to say: "The messages we received from the United Nations and also from the United States government do not favor the leaders' presence in New York because of these conditions."

He added, "We asked the international community to pay attention to this speech and listen to it well, because it bears many issues that the international community must listen to and deal with with all responsibility."

The Palestinian Foreign Minister did not provide details of the speech or those issues that he will talk about, and the general debate of the 76th session of the General Assembly is scheduled to start on September 21.
