UNICEF: We will provide the Corona vaccine from Pfizer to the Eastern Mediterranean Region



Dr. Abdel Nasser Abu Bakr, Director of the Infection Risk Management Unit at the World Health Organization, said that Corona mutations have severe effects, so every country must monitor the number of mutated cases it has to detect new mutations.


He added that the only way to reduce mutations is the need for precautionary measures, but if we do not maintain physical distancing, wear a muzzle and wash hands, we will not limit the transmission of infection, and misleading information must be overcome, and all vaccines approved by the organization are safe and effective.


For his part, Dr.Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization, confirmed that the Kovacs initiative seeks to provide two billion doses of Corona vaccines worldwide, and in order to ensure a fair distribution, manufacturers have been dealt with to provide the required quantities, and the World Health Organization is cooperating with international organizations. And the vaccine-producing countries, and there is continuous communication to agree on approaches and consultations to establish additional production lines that have the potential for that to overcome the shortage of vaccines in the world.


For his part, Dr. Ted Chaiban, UNICEF's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, said that the Pfizer vaccine will be provided to the Eastern Mediterranean Region, explaining that we provide the vaccine on the front lines for health workers, the elderly and people with chronic diseases, explaining that providing vaccines prevents deaths and protects people from the virus, adding The more people who are vaccinated, the greater the protection in society, but the vaccine is not the magic wand, so it is necessary to separate physically, wash hands, wear a mask, and avoid closed places, and we hope that we will reach what we seek and what we agreed upon previously.


Dr. Rana Al-Hajjah, Director of Programs Department at the World Health Organization, added that we depend on the Advisory Committee to approve Corona vaccines, and we rely on the approvals issued by regulatory institutions such as the US Food and Drug Administration, and to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccine, and the organizations in each country are responsible for approval. On any vaccine, explaining that for the rest of the vaccines, we review the vaccines very quickly, and it usually takes about a year to review the data before it is licensed, but in the situation the license was granted to Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Johnson after reviewing the data in a short period, and it will also be announced.
