Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, affirmed that achieving comprehensive and sustainable economic development is one of the most important priorities of the political leadership and the Egyptian government during the current stage, especially in light of the difficult conditions facing the global economic system from the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus, which negatively affected the economies of all countries of the world, referring to this The framework indicates that the success achieved by the economic reform plan adopted by the Egyptian government more than 4 years ago has contributed to enhancing the capabilities of the Egyptian economy to face global economic crises, including the "Covid 19" crisis.

She said that the Egyptian private sector has played a major role in implementing the state's plan to confront the repercussions of the spread of the Coronavirus, through the continued rotation of the wheel of production and the preservation of employment, which confirms the importance of the national role of the business community as a key partner for the government in implementing economic reform plans.

This came in the context of the speech delivered by the Minister on behalf of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, during the activities of the "Egypt for the Best" forum, in the presence of a number of ministers, which was organized by Amwal Al-Ghad magazine headed by Dina Abdel Fattah, who witnessed the honor of the 100 best companies in the Egyptian market. And the 50 most influential women in the Egyptian economy, outstanding entrepreneurs, innovators with special needs, and the best institutions in the field of social responsibility and sustainable development.

The minister explained that the year 2020 was an exceptional year due to the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus, which required the government to perform exceptional performance in line with the size of the challenge to contain the negative repercussions of this virus, as the government worked on multiple axes and took swift measures to confront all the expected repercussions on the economic and social levels, pointing out. However, these measures contributed to the Egyptian economy achieving the second place among the highest emerging economies in 2020, with a growth rate of 3.6%, and within 3 economies in the Middle East and Central Asia achieved positive economic growth.

Jameh pointed out that the positive indicators of the Egyptian economy were the result of policies and decisions taken by the state based on the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in which the private sector participated, which included directing the Ministry of Finance to allocate 100 billion pounds to confront the Corona virus and launching the initiative of "troubled clients" affected by the tourism sector in addition to To save 20 billion pounds to exporters during the year 2020 to pay the exporting companies' dues to the Export Development Fund.

She added that the Egyptian industry sector represents a major and pivotal tributary in the implementation of the state's plans for sustainable development through its contribution to the gross domestic product and the provision of job opportunities, pointing out that despite the negative repercussions of the global spread of the Corona pandemic, the Egyptian industry was able to achieve positive performance indicators during Fiscal year 20/19, where the industrial growth rate reached 6.3%; The industrial product’s contribution amounted to about 17.1% in the gross domestic product, bringing the value of the industrial product to 942 billion pounds, compared to 847 billion pounds in the previous year, an increase of 95 billion pounds.

The minister noted that the value of public industrial investments amounted to about 49 billion pounds during the past fiscal year, which represents about 10.3% of the total public investment, and the industrial sector absorbed about 28.2% of the total Egyptian employment, which indicates the pivotal role that this plays. The important sector in providing job opportunities for young people and reducing unemployment rates, and the importance of the industrial sector as a locomotive for sustainable economic development.
